Rihanna’s been singled out a lot lately for “Battleship” because it’s her acting debut, but that’s not really fair, is it? MTV News’ Josh Horowitz certainly didn’t think so. During “MTV First: Battleship,” he decided to take her co-stars on a trip down memory lane to look at their first gigs on the big screen. [...]

Justin Bieber continues to give his fans a taste of his forthcoming video for “Boyfriend,” with new teaser clips (below) and interviews on the topic.
“I think people are going to be really happy [with the video] and … I think it’s going to make people like the song more,” Bieber told MTV News.
“The song, and the album (Believe), in general, is just really new and fresh and I think that people are going to be really happy to hear it.”
The song represents a more mature sound for the 18-year-old, but he says “Boyfriend” is just one component of the album’s overall sound.
“I think it’s part of it,” he said. “My whole album is so different and every song’s different, I think that what’s special about it; nothing sounds the same.”
Bieber also teased that he would be hitting the studio with his mentor Usher, who in turn tweeted a bit more about working with his understudy.
“Ohh … and trust we got a duet coming for ‘LOOKING 4 MYSELF’ and ‘BELIEVE,’” he said of working with the teen star on both their forthcoming albums.
“He has come a long way. Proud to see his evolution as an artist!”
We’re guessing 19,863,129 Beliebers (as of this post) concur.

Young Jeezy is still riding high off of TM 103, but the ambitious hustler is itching to drop the next LP — his CTE label compilation album. There is no official release date for the It’s the World album, but judging from Jeezy’s excitement, it shouldn’t be too far off.
“I’m ready to put the singles out now,” Young told MTV News after his mtvU Spring Break performance at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, which airs tonight at 9:50 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
It’s the World will showcase not only Jeezy, but Freddie Gibbs and the rest of the CTE roster as well. Jizzle revealed that the first single to drop will be a song called “Ridin’,” but ensured that the team has more than one bullet in the chamber. “We got the singles locked and loaded, we gonna shoot a couple of videos,” he said. “I’m on tour, so I’m in the middle of the tour, right before I get off I’m ready to go. Freddie Gibbs, the whole camp, we ready, we turned up.”
As excited as he is for the future, in no way was the Snowman overlooking the matter at hand: his 2012 Spring Break set. Young thrilled Vegas Spring Breakers with his tried and true Akon-assisted single “Soul Survivor,” as well as newer hits like “I Do” and his current single “Superfreak.”
“You just gotta come out and when you come out there and you turned up, they gonna turn up with you,” Jeezy said about his performance. “I ain’t come to play.”
How much are you looking forward to CTE’s It’s the World? Tell us in the comments!

Despite her initial claims, McDonald’s worker Mirlande Wilson didn’t actually win the Mega Millions lottery. She just made that story up … for reasons unknown.
The Maryland woman claimed she won the lottery but couldn’t find the ticket, perhaps in hopes that someone would just take her word and cut her a check.
Alas, three winners – all female teachers from Maryland who wish to remain anonymous – have come forward to claim the record $218 million winnings.
This was a disappointment to Wilson, but she’s hanging in there.

“I’m doing OK,” she said about finding out that her “missing ticket” ultimately didn’t have the winning numbers. “That’s alright that I didn’t win this time.”
The winners, who call themselves “the three amigos,” were “privately laughing” about Wilson, who publicly proclaimed herself the winner before they did.
When asked why she claimed to have the winning ticket, Wilson said, “I don’t even know what happened, but everybody doesn’t know what really happened.”
Okay then. “If the money is for getting then I’m going to get it,” she added, while her sister added that she will “no doubt” keep playing Mega Millions.
“If she has $20 and spends $19, she’ll take the last $1 and buy a ticket,” she said.
So she spends five percent of her income, after taxes, on lotto tickets. Smart.
Plus, ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ is a must-see, and stop hating on ‘Titanic.’

Director Gary Ross on the set of “The Hunger Games”

It’s been a hectic few weeks for “Hunger Games” fans, to say the least. After seeing their beloved book realized at last on the big screen and opening to great reviews and record-breaking box-office numbers (it only took three weekends for the start of this franchise to overtake any of the “Twilight Saga” films — amazing!), some backroom Hollywood negotiations went public when Gary Ross was reportedly in and then out and then maybe back in again for helming the second installment, “Catching Fire.”
I’m not privy to any insider information on this one, but I will say I hope Ross is retained for the sequel and all the installments to come in the series. First of all, his passion and understanding of the material is genuine and impressive. In my conversations with Ross, it was clear that he was not just a gun for hire to launch a franchise and then take the money and run. (If reports are to be believed, in fact, his payday wasn’t all that exorbitant by Hollywood standards.)
Ross is a filmmaker who takes his time when choosing projects: “The Hunger Games” was only the third film he’s helmed in 14 years as a director. He’s credited as a co-writer on the film (a smart move by the studio for a man whose credits include “Big” and “Dave”), something none of the “Twilight Saga” directors, for instance, had an opportunity to do. And while I like the practice in some franchises of letting a different director put their stamp on a series in each go round (the “Mission: Impossible” movies are probably the best example of this), my gut tells me “The Hunger Games” would benefit from a consistent voice. I had some issues with the first “Hunger Games” film, but on the whole, Ross got it right. I’d love to see his vision realized for what’s to come in the life of Katniss Everdeen.
Must-See of the Week
I’ve seen two huge crowd-pleasers thus far this year: “21 Jump Street” certainly found its audience last month and rightfully so. But “The Cabin in the Woods” (opening Friday) has a slightly tougher road to navigate toward finding the audience it richly deserves. The horror/thriller from the minds of Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard really does benefit from knowing as little as possible before stepping into the theater. Unfortunately, that requires a lot of faith from an audience. All I can say is I saw this with a group of maybe 20 journalists and there was screaming, big laughter and actual talking to the screen going on in that theater — something that never happens in that kind of environment. I highly recommend “The Cabin in the Woods.” It’s fun and unique. Plus it’s Chris Hemsworth, so consider this your “Avengers” amuse-bouche.
Let Summer Begin!
Speaking of which, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is just around the corner (opening May 4), in case you couldn’t tell from all the recent ads. There are some huge expectations on this one obviously, but color me cautiously optimistic. There’s too much talent in there for it not to be pretty damn entertaining, right? RIGHT? Any summer that kicks off with a one-two punch of the biggest superhero team-up movie of all time followed immediately by Tim Burton and Johnny Depp doing vampires — “Dark Shadows” opens May 11! — is all right by me.
Yes, the Ship Still Sinks
I’m officially sick and tired of hearing some of you groan whenever “Titanic” is brought up. It was an amazing movie. It remains an amazing movie in 3-D. And if there’s any flick that demands to be seen on the big screen, this one is it. I feel like there is some revisionist history going on with this film. It was not just 12-year-old girls who made “Titanic” the #1 movie in America for 15(!) consecutive weeks. You all loved it back in ’97. And it’s not exactly dated now. It’s the same as it was back then.
All of which is to say I’m thrilled to be catching up with filmmaker James Cameron this week. Every conversation with him is a reminder that there’s no one smarter making movies today. If you’ve got a question for the former king of the world, hit me up on Twitter @joshuahorowitz.
